I worked with the Bedouin men of Wadi Rum in Jordan to represent ‘The Orient’, the prevalent symbol of the Arab man through the 18th and 19th century. I hope to address issues of misrepresentation by actively involving the Bedouins in the visual language. By performing within the frame, the men are empowered contributors to the overall production of the images. The process is an inclusive one, where we work in collaboration to create a body of work that seeks to revoke a response from the viewer.
